Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does therapy work?

We'll start with a complimentary 15-minute video consultation. If it is a mutual fit, we'll set up an initial appointment. During this session, I'll ask you more detailed questions in order to get to know you better. We will create a treatment plan that's tailored to you and what you are looking to get out of therapy. We will then meet at a mutually agreed upon frequency (typically weekly) to work toward your goals.

  • What can I expect from my consultation?

Consultations are 15 minutes and are held over video. This allows us to see if we might be a good fit for each other, and gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. We will also talk about what you hope to get out of therapy, and logistics such as billing and scheduling.

  • How long and how often is therapy?

Therapy sessions are typically 45 minutes long. Therapy yields the most consistent results when attended on a weekly basis. It is an ongoing process and there may be times when you will need to be seen more or less frequently.

There are no rules for how long you should be in therapy. Some clients come to therapy short-term to resolve a specific issue and others remain in therapy for years for continued support and growth. We will work together to determine when your therapeutic goals have been met.

  • Where are you located?

While I am based out of NYC, I see clients virtually throughout New York, Florida, and internationally. If you are temporarily in another state but have a home base in New York or Florida, please contact me directly to see if we can work together.

  • Do you offer in-person therapy?

All sessions are being held virtually through our secure video platform at this time.

  • What are the benefits of virtual therapy?

Virtual therapy offers a convenient and flexible option for receiving therapy from the comfort of your own home or any other location that works for you. With virtual therapy, there's no need to deal with the stress and hassle of commuting to appointments, and it makes it easier to fit therapy into your busy schedule. I conduct virtual appointments through a secure video platform that's accessible via our client portal, providing you with a confidential and private setting to receive the support and care you need.

  • Do you accept insurance?

Like most private practices, Mollie Candib, LCSW is considered an out-of-network provider with all insurances. As an out-of-network provider, I am committed to helping you receive the maximum benefits available through your out-of-network mental health coverage. If you are looking to receive reimbursement from your insurance, I can provide you with a superbill that includes all of the necessary information for self-claim submission. Alternatively, I offer claim submission services to help facilitate this reimbursement process.

  • Why don't you accept insurance directly?

By not contracting with insurance directly, I am able to focus solely on serving my clients. If I were to accept insurance, I would be subject to their regulations, including the possibility of limited coverage and less privacy in regard to personal health information. As an out-of-network provider, I am committed to working directly with you, with greater flexibility and confidentiality in my approach to therapy.

  • How do I know if I have out-of-network coverage?

To best understand your out-of-network coverage, I recommend calling the number on the back of your insurance card and asking the following questions:

    • Does my plan offer any out-of-network benefits for mental health?
    • Do I have an out-of-network deductible? If yes, how much of it has already been met this year?
    • Are there any limitations on the number of sessions my plan covers for mental health?
    • Are virtual outpatient therapy sessions covered by my plan?
    • How much will I be reimbursed per visit when I see an out-of-network therapist?
    • Do I need prior approval or a referral in order to receive reimbursement for out-of-network therapy?
    • How long does the process take from when the claim is submitted to when I would receive reimbursement?

You can also use Nirvana to check your out-of-network benefits and see what you will be reimbursed by your insurance company.

  • How does payment work?

Clients are responsible for payment of the session fee at the time of the session. I accept payment by credit card or HSA/FSA cards. Your card is stored securely in your client portal. Additionally, all billing documents are available to you in your client portal for your convenience.

  • Do you provide crisis support services?

As a virtual practice, I do not have the appropriate resources to provide the support necessary in a crisis. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please utilize the below resources:

    • Call 911 or 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or visit your local hospital.
